What can I expect after surgery to remove ovarian cysts?
April 8, 2009
I am just over 12 weeks pregnant and I have to have surgery sometime in the next 4 weeks to have ovarian cysts removed. The largest cyst is just over 15cm, 10 cm, 8cm, and many smaller ones all of which are growing. What can I expect after surgery? How long does it take to heal? How soon before I can return to school afterwards? I'm assuming the pain that I am in now will be gone once the cysts are removed
Your ovarian cysts must be solid as the fluid ones can break on their own usually. If they are cysts and not desmoid tumors (as my daughter had those twice. Sometimes drs call them cysts instead.) it should be a basic removal that the dr. is not unfamiliar with doing. The dr. can best tell you what to expect in that recovery as they can gauge it on case studies. If they are smaller they can remove them with a scope which is a day patient basis procedure. IF there are alot of them then they don't likely do that and have to cut and remove them. I would suggest that you consult your dr. to see what way they are to be removed. My daughter had her first desmoid removed the old fashioned way of cutting open and taking it out as it grew to 15 lbs then as we didn't know what it was for a year even. The next time was just this month and she was a day patient , had the scope as it was small enough to take it out that way and she had surgical tape over the sites (3) where the scope had to enter for this. She got to remove the tape in a week but was improved by the 3rd day after the surgery this time. She was able to return to work in 5 days after this and not have a complaint or pain then either. Just remember 90% of what we worry about doesn't happen. Relax and when your body is ready to be back on track and fully functional you will feel the difference and know best then. My daughter scheduled this for when there was a school break. I highly recommend that for the best healing time.
What can I do for ovarian cyst pain?
April 8, 2009
I’m 16 and I have been getting a lot of ovarian cysts since I was 13. A lot of them burst too, which is very painful.
I’ve been having stomach aches, and I really think its another cyst. It hurts when I go from standing to sitting, and I just tried a tampon and it killed in the same spot where its hurting. I’m almost hunched over.
What can I do for the cyst pain?
I would suggest getting some prescription pain medicine. I too have problems with cysts and over the counter stuff just doesn’t do it. You may have a cyst that hasn’t burst yet and may be getting bigger. When I had that problem I had to have surgery to get it removed. Try using warm heating pads and taking warm baths. I’ve found it does ease the pain sometimes. And for the time being, I’d stay away from the tampons. You got enough going on in there without shoving a hunk of cotton up in there. Good luck!
Is it possible to feel ovarian pain in BOTH ovaries?
April 8, 2009
I think I feel ovulation pain, but I am not sure if it's what I think it is. Can you feel ovarian pain in BOTH at the same time? Or both in one month? I have PCOS, and just got done taking my Clomid. Is this normal?
Yep, has happened to me EVERY MONTH that I have taken Clomid or Femara. I imagine 10 eggs on each side developing and releasing, my pain is so bad sometimes. Maybe I'll end up on a show like Jon and Kate plus 8—haha.
Anyway, it's normal. Just means the follicles are developing.
Good luck—baby dust!
what are the symptoms of ovarian cysts getting worse?
April 6, 2009
I was diagnosed with my left ovary having a cyst. My primary doc said it is almost the size of my ovary and to have a ob keep an eye on it incase it gets larger cuz I would have to have it removed if it does. However she didnt give me signs to look for if it does get worse. I dont have any insurance right now or I would go to a ob. I need to know symptoms to look for….anyone have symptoms for me?

When a COMPLEX ovarian cyst ruptures, does the fluid from the sac cause any harm ?
April 3, 2009
From the answers I recieved for my previous question, I learned that if the cyst ruptures, it does not cause infertility but causes a lot of pain. But i forgot to mention that the cyst that I have is a complex one as found from ultrasound. So, PLEASE give me more information.
Hi again. That does change things a bit, doesn't it? A complex ovarian cyst needs to be evaluated further. A small percentage of these can be cancerous.
"Sometimes cysts are complex, either containing partly fluid elements and partly solid elements or having septations (walls) within a fluid-filled cyst. In general, complex cysts are evaluated further, as some complex cysts may be cancerous. Depending on exactly how the cyst looks on ultrasound, your doctor may recommend blood work, a CT or MRI scan to get a better look at the cyst, or even surgery to remove the cyst. Many times a complex cyst can be evaluated via laparoscopy, but sometimes a large abdominal incision is required." http://health.ivillage.com/gyno/cysts/0,,4ltl,00.html
"With a complex one they would remove it and evaluate it for ovarian cancer." http://www.baymoon.com/~gyncancer/library/blqa32septcyst.htm
If it was my body, since the cyst is not a simple cyst, I would have it removed. If it were truly a simple cyst, with NO malignant characteristics on ultrasound, I would leave it and see if it remedied itself. But, it sounds like there are no guarantees that this mass is benign. So, in my opinion, it does not matter if it ruptures or not. A cancer is a cancer, and I would not like to have that uncertainty in my body.
